The Magician: Your Tea and Tarot Blog

--By Hyperion Night

The Magician Tarot card from the Rider Waite Smith deck

The Magician

Manifestation. Intention. Inspired action. Using the Tools at Hand.

It was not my typical day.

My morning meditation ran away with me, and suddenly I had a blog I needed to write complete in my head. On the way to work, all the traffic lights were green. As I was turning left, I suddenly knew that the driver beside me was about to swerve into my lane, and I braked. Sure enough, she did, and we missed each other by a hair. There was a book I wanted to read, but it was long out of print. Out of the blue, the friend I was having lunch with announced he'd just finished reading an amazing book and offered to lend it to me. It was the book I'd wanted to read. Outside the restaurant, I found twenty dollars on the sidewalk.

I usually have no trouble finding parking in my crowded beach town. But that day was a whole other level of magic. I was in the zone. And I knew exactly why. Because I was in the zone. I felt light and open and in the moment. As within so without, as above so below. That day, I was the Magician. I'd like to say I was able to maintain that groove, but I didn't. I'm just not that guy. At least, not usually.

But the days I am, I don't forget.

The Magician in Tarot is that guy, channeling the energies from above and directing them to the earthly plane. An infinity sign hovers above his head, and he wears an ouroboros for a belt. This card is numbered one in the Major Arcana—a number representing beginnings, creation, ideas, will. It also represents the active, male principal, as well as initiation, inspiration and aspiration—that which is about to take form. All the tools of Tarot—cup, sword, wand, and pentacle—lie before him on his table. Not only is the Magician ready to go, but he's got all the tools he needs to make things happen—in short, to manifest.

If this card appears in a reading, consider the situation and examine the tools available and how to utilize them, because now appears to be the time to act. This card asks you to believe in yourself and the support of the universe. Are you truly committed to getting what you want? Do you really understand your own motivations? Because this commitment and understanding is necessary to move forward.
