The Ace of Swords: Your Tea and Tarot Card for Today

--By Hyperion Night of Beanblossom's Tea and Tarot

The Rider Waite Smith Ace of Swords Tarot card

The Ace of Swords

New ideas. Breakthrough. Triumph. Revelation. Clarity. Opportunity.

"Is it possible," I asked. "That a part of you wants to hold onto this pain?"

My client blinked. She was a forty-something executive from a Silicon Valley company that shall not be named. And though she was killing it in the boardroom, her romantic life was a shambles. "I just can't move on. Why can't I move on? I only dated this guy three weeks."

So when I asked her if a part of her wanted the pain, her initial reaction was along the lines of, "Are you out of your mind?" But then she stopped, angled her head, and a shocked look spread across her face. "Oh my God. You're right. I'm giving this relationship more meaning than it should have, and I'm doing it by holding onto the pain. It's like if the breakup hurts a lot, then the relationship meant something. But it should be the other way around."

From a numerological perspective, one is all about beginnings and creation. And as the first card in its Tarot suit, the Ace of Swords contains this as well, but with a mental twist. From a bank of storm clouds, symbolizing confused thinking, a hand extends holding an upright sword spearing a crown (mastery and attainment) and palm and olive branches (severity and mercy, respectively). Clarity is breaking through the clouds. The yods above the sword's handle represent new beginnings and the possibility of energy made manifest.

My Tarot client left the reading feeling lighter. She went home and journaled on her epiphany and feelings, talked with friends, did some EFT tapping. Three weeks later, she called me up. "I'm happy again," she said. "I'd forgotten that the love was inside me all along, and now that I've let go of that relationship, everything's changed." For her, the Ace of Swords Tarot card was a beginning, but an important one.
